Reflux is often too LITTLE acid, not too much.
This usually surprises many. Most people who have reflux do not have too much stomach acid. They have too little.
When acid is missing:
- the food is fermenting
- the pressure is mounting
- the zip doesn't close properly
And then it feels rubbish.
We need stomach acid to:
- break down protein
- kill bacteria
- activate enzymes
When agni is weak, ama (incompletely digested food) is formed, which can create gas, pressure and acid reflux.
Reflux is therefore often seen as
weak digestion
disturbed Vata
→ and sometimes Pitta being pushed upwards
Just turning off the acid is not always the solution.
Strengthening agni is often that.
