Panchakarma är en process inom ayurveda, en traditionell indisk läkekonst. How long should a Panchakarma be?
Panchakarma is not a “quick fix” but a process in which the body is gradually opened, cleansed, and rebuilt. The longer you stay in treatment, the deeper levels of toxins can be dissolved and eliminated – physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Here are general guidelines:
7–10 nights
For those who are not unwell, but wish to reduce stress, restore balance, or undergo a preventative cleanse. A shorter Panchakarma aimed at restoring energy and preventing future imbalances.
14 nights
Recommended as a minimum level if you have a concrete diagnosis, feel unbalanced or have ongoing symptoms. This length provides sufficient time for the entire process – preparation, cleansing, and rebuilding – to act within the body.
21–28 nights
For long-term or chronic conditions, a longer Panchakarma is the most effective option. Here, the body has time to cleanse not only superficial toxins, but also the deeper layers that have built up over time. The treatment can address the most ingrained causes of ill health.
The more time you give your body to rest, cleanse and recover, the deeper the healing result becomes.

To make Panchakarma as effective as possible, you need to prioritise rest and recovery.
Excursions & trips
During Panchakarma, the body is in a deep detoxification and rebuilding phase. Travel and numerous impressions consume energy that is instead needed for healing and for the body to be able to release ama (toxins) in a safe way.
Bad & swimming
After treatments, pores are open to allow the body to release toxins. Baths and swimming, especially in cold water, cause the pores to contract, which can hinder cleansing and disrupt the body's natural purification process.
Excessive exposure to sun and wind
The body is extra sensitive during Panchakarma. Strong sun and wind can disturb the nervous system, increase vata and pitta imbalance, and counteract the stabilisation and recovery that the process requires. Check with your doctor when you can be in the sun.
Sexual activity
In Ayurveda, sexual energy (ojas) is regarded as life force. During Panchakarma, this energy needs to be conserved and directed towards healing, tissue building, and the recovery of the nervous system.
Further stimulating activities
Intense training, lots of social interaction, screen time and strong sensory input activate the nervous system. Panchakarma works best in stillness, when the body is allowed to work internally without external stimulation.
For this reason, it is not permitted to leave the centre for excursions or day trips during the ongoing programme.
