Mental health in the workplace: why it deserves more attention

The way we work affects our mental health, and in turn, our mental health affects our performance. This isn't just an individual problem; it's a shared responsibility for every team and company.

Creating a workplace that supports mental health benefits everyone and it starts with small, conscious actions.

🔹 Did you know this?
According to the World Health Organisation, 13 % of the world’s population live with mental health problems or addiction-related issues.

🔹 What contributes to this?
  • Chronic stress
  • Low emotional health
  • Lack of physical activity
  • Inadequate mindfulness practices
These factors can lead to depression, anxiety, memory problems and addiction.

🔹 What leaders and teams can do
  • Prioritise regular physical activity and meditation, both of which strengthen memory and brain function.
  • Eat brain-friendly food. Within Ayurveda, this is known as Medhya Rasayana, which includes Brahmi, butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea), Triphala and ghee.
  • Get enough high-quality sleep.
🔹 More you can do
  • Detoxify the body regularly to reduce inflammation and eliminate free radicals that damage the nervous system.
  • Challenge your brain, learn a new language or a new skill to support cognitive development.
  • Create a healthy communication culture: say no when needed, laugh often, express how you feel and avoid bottling up your emotions.
