What would happen if we started asking a different question before we eat?

What would happen if we started asking a different question before we eat?

Not just: “What do I fancy?” or “What’s quick?” But: “Will this food give me energy and balance, or create imbalance?”

In Ayurveda, food is one of our most important medicines.

Here are some timeless principles:
🔥 Agni – the fire of digestion, which is the foundation of health.
When Agni is strong, the body can break down food, absorb nutrients, and get rid of what it doesn't need. When Agni is weak, ama (toxins) can start to build up.

🕛 Eat your largest meal of the day in the middle of the day.
Just as the sun is at its highest, so is the digestive fire at its strongest.

🥣 Choose warm, freshly prepared food more often than cold and raw.
For most people, warm food is gentler on the digestion and easier for the body to absorb.

🌱 Spices are more than just flavour.
Ginger, turmeric, cumin, and coriander are used in Ayurveda to support digestion and help the body find balance.

🧘 How you eat is as important as what you eat.
When we eat peacefully, without stress and distractions, the body is better able to digest and absorb nutrients.

But remember: Ayurveda is never about rules that suit everyone. What is healing for one person can create imbalance in another. Therefore, Ayurveda always starts from the individual's unique constitution (Prakruti) and current imbalance (Vikruti).

Every meal is an opportunity to build up your body or slowly break it down.

Where healing begins,

and harmony returns.
