In Ayurveda we view the body as intelligent. Symptoms are not just something that “happens” to us, they can be signals of imbalances that are asking for attention.
That doesn't mean all pain has an emotional cause or that a specific area always means the same thing for everyone. But sometimes it can be valuable to pause and ask:
Can reflect overthinking, mental pressure, self-criticism and constant stimulation.
“I release mental pressure and give my mind space to rest and recover.”
Often bears responsibility, stress, and the feeling of having to hold everything together alone.
“I don’t have to carry the whole burden on my own.”
May be linked to feelings of being overwhelmed, lacking support or taking on too much responsibility.
“I don't need to carry everything on my own.”
Our hands create, hold, give and receive. Tension in this area can sometimes reflect control, setting boundaries or the way we engage with the world.
“I’m letting go. I’ll let life flow through my open hands.”
It can carry the things we haven’t allowed ourselves to feel fully – love, sorrow, joy or vulnerability.
“When I soften, love can flow freely.”
It is often associated with things we don’t say, words we keep to ourselves, or the feeling of not being heard.
“My voice deserves to be heard. My truth matters.”
In Ayurveda, digestion is central. The stomach is often said to hold things we have not yet “digested” – experiences, emotions or stress.
“I’m slowing down and taking life one bite at a time.”
Can be linked to security, support, survival and trust in life.
“I feel safe, supported and looked after.”
May involve tensions relating to freedom, boundaries, creativity and old feelings that have not been fully processed.
“I am grounded, open and free to express myself fully.”
It’s often about staying grounded, finding direction and our ability to take the next step forward.
“I feel confident about taking the step into whatever lies ahead.”
Ayurveda is not just about interpreting symptoms, but about understanding the bigger picture. Diet, sleep, stress, relationships, lifestyle, the season, age and dosha all influence how the body expresses itself.
