Panchakarma - the Ayurvedic thorough purification system. It is the heart of Ayurvedic healing. – a millennia-old method for cleansing the body of toxins, balancing the internal elements and restoring the self-healing ability at the deepest level.

A journey back to the body's nature

This isn't a trendy detox, no juice cleanse in new packaging. It's an intelligent, individually tailored treatment process where the body, mind, and soul can recover, cleanse, and rejuvenate at a cellular level.

Panchakarma is built on thousands of years of experience from Vedic medicine, and is designed not just to treat symptoms – but to reach the very cause of illness or imbalance.

The three stages of the Panchakarma process

Panchakarma consists of three phases that follow the body's natural rhythm: preparation, cleansing, and rejuvenation. Each step is as important as the next and allows for deep transformation that integrates over time.

1.

Purva Karma – Preparation

This is the body's “soft start”, where toxins are mobilised from the tissues and moved to the intestinal tract ahead of the actual cleansing.

The treatment includes:

  • Internal oil treatments (ghee) and external oil massage
  • Heat therapy (herbal sauna, steam) to open pores and circulation
  • Strengthening digestion (Agni)
  • A personalised diet to support detoxification

2.

Pradhana Karma - Cleansing

In this central stage, the classic detoxification methods (see below) are carried out, which help the body to eliminate toxins through various channels – intestines, skin, sinuses, urinary tract, and blood. The treatment is tailored to the individual's constitution and imbalances.

3.

Paschat Karma – Reconstruction

After the body has been cleansed, it needs time to recover and rebuild itself from within.

This includes:

  • Easily digestible, healing diet that is gradually reintroduced
  • Rasayana (rejuvenating herbs and tonics)
  • Supportive lifestyle advice and routines to maintain the effect
  • Rest and integration to deepen healing.

The five purification methods of Panchakarma

Panchakarma means “five actions” and these five traditional therapies are the core of the purification phase:

  • Vamana - Vomiting Therapy. Cleanses phlegm, heaviness, stagnation, and emotional blockages from the chest and stomach (rarely used but is powerful).
  • Virechana - Bowel purification. Cools the body's overheated systems, cleanses the liver and balances Pitta.
  • Basti/Vasthi - Medicinal enema. Goes directly to the root - the large intestine where Vata governs. Rehydrates, stabilises and strengthens the nervous system.
  • Nasya - Nasal oil therapy. Cleanses the mind channels, balances the mind and awakens clarity and intuition.
  • Rakta Mokshana - Blood purification. Removes excess heat and toxins from the blood, relieves inflammation (used only in specific cases).

Panchakarma doesn't just target symptoms – it treats the root cause of ill health. The treatment can be effective for a wide spectrum of physical, mental, and emotional conditions:

Physical imbalances

  • Chronic pain and aches: Osteoarthritis, back problems, joint inflammation, fibromyalgia
  • The digestive system: IBS, constipation, acid reflux, weak digestion
  • Skin problems: Eczema, acne, psoriasis, allergies
  • Hormonal issues: PMS, the menopause, infertility, the andropause
  • Autoimmune diseases: Reduced inflammation, immune system support
  • Cardiovascular problems: High blood pressure, cholesterol, being overweight
  • Insulin resistance and blood sugar fluctuations
  • Long-term fatigue and post-viral recovery

Mental and emotional states

  • Stress, weariness, anxiety
  • Depression and emotional stagnation
  • Exhaustion, “brain fog”, difficulty concentrating
  • Sleep difficulties and circadian imbalance

Preventative and rejuvenating:

  • Increases immunity and resilience
  • Strengthens vitality, endurance and energy
  • Improves recovery from trauma and long-term illness
  • Promotes inner calm, clarity, and bodily presence
  • Stimulates tissue regeneration – rejuvenating at a cellular level
  • Delays ageing, improves skin, hair and circulation
  • Supports the nervous system, hormonal system and gut flora.
  • Contributes to a longer, healthier, and more balanced life

Effects – In-depth

Panchakarma is more than just cleansing – it is a recalibration of the body's entire system. Many experience afterwards:

  • Deep sense of stillness and lightness
  • Improved sleep, digestion, and hormonal balance
  • Reduced pain, inflammation and stagnation
  • Clearer thoughts and emotional stability
  • Return of natural joy, vitality and power
  • The body's intelligence is activated – self-healing becomes possible

“You don't need more affirmations – you need less inner chaos. Panchakarma does this. With precision, love, and ancient intelligence.”

Panchakarma is Ayurveda's most powerful tool.

It is a system - but also a ritual.

It is a medical process – but also a spiritual reunion.

It's not about adding something new, but about removing what obscures the healthy, the clear, and the true within you.

When the body clears out the old, peace can descend.

When the mind is still, healing can take place.

When you meet the silence within you - then the body remembers who it is.

Panchakarma is not a treatment. It is a return to origin.

How long should a Panchakarma be?

Panchakarma is not a “quick fix” but a process in which the body is gradually opened, cleansed, and rebuilt. The longer you stay in treatment, the deeper levels of toxins can be dissolved and eliminated – physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Here are general guidelines:

7–10 nights

For those who are not unwell, but wish to reduce stress, restore balance, or undergo a preventative cleanse. A shorter Panchakarma aimed at restoring energy and preventing future imbalances.

14 nights

Recommended as a minimum level if you have a concrete diagnosis, feel unbalanced or have ongoing symptoms. This length provides sufficient time for the entire process – preparation, cleansing, and rebuilding – to act within the body.

21–28 nights

For long-term or chronic conditions, a longer Panchakarma is the most effective option. Here, the body has time to cleanse not only superficial toxins, but also the deeper layers that have built up over time. The treatment can address the most ingrained causes of ill health.

The more time you give your body to rest, cleanse and recover, the deeper the healing result becomes.

Att göra & att undvika (Do’s & Don’ts)

To make Panchakarma as effective as possible, you need to prioritise rest and recovery.

Excursions & trips

During Panchakarma, the body is in a deep detoxification and rebuilding phase. Travel and numerous impressions consume energy that is instead needed for healing and for the body to be able to release ama (toxins) in a safe way.

Bad & swimming

After treatments, pores are open to allow the body to release toxins. Baths and swimming, especially in cold water, cause the pores to contract, which can hinder cleansing and disrupt the body's natural purification process.

Excessive exposure to sun and wind

The body is extra sensitive during Panchakarma. Strong sun and wind can disturb the nervous system, increase vata and pitta imbalance, and counteract the stabilisation and recovery that the process requires. Check with your doctor when you can be in the sun.

Sexual activity

In Ayurveda, sexual energy (ojas) is regarded as life force. During Panchakarma, this energy needs to be conserved and directed towards healing, tissue building, and the recovery of the nervous system.

Further stimulating activities

Intense training, lots of social interaction, screen time and strong sensory input activate the nervous system. Panchakarma works best in stillness, when the body is allowed to work internally without external stimulation.

For this reason, it is not permitted to leave the centre for excursions or day trips during the ongoing programme.

These guidelines are crucial for your healing process and for reducing the risk of undesirable side effects.
