JUHA KURIKKA - Kalevala Mobilisation Therapist & Licensed Massage Therapist.

Finnish traditional Kalevala

The Finnish bone-setting tradition has existed for over a thousand years and has been one of the most common tools in Finnish folk medicine, alongside herbalism, sauna bathing and cupping therapy.

Kalevala mobilisation therapy

Kalevala mobilisation is a trademarked and scientifically studied form of manual therapy within the EU.

The method is based on Finnish traditional body knowledge and is performed in a way that respects the body's natural tissues.

When the whole body is treated, mobility increases, muscles and membranes relax, and the nervous system, tissues, and metabolism gain new vitality.

The purpose of the treatment

The aim is to balance the body's musculoskeletal structures – that is, the interaction between muscles, joints, connective tissue and the nervous system.

Imbalances often manifest as:

Functional differences between the left and right sides

• Misalignments

Muscle tension

• Areas of pain

Changes in the quality of the tissues

How does treatment take place?

  • The treatment is carried out by:
  • mobilise the tissues
  • Work with the body's natural range of motion
  • Release muscle and joint tension
  • Balance fluid and nerve flows

The whole body is treated – from the soles of the feet to the base of the skull.

Muscle tension, fluid pressure, and pain responses help the therapist to find the root cause, so the treatment is directed at the entire area that is creating the problem – not just where the pain is located.

The treatment is friendly, gentle, and very effective.

About Juha

Juha trained as a Kalevala-based posture corrector after receiving great help from the treatment himself.

After his active ice hockey career, he suffered from severe back pain and tried many different treatments without success. When he finally saw a Kalevalian joint corrector, he quickly found relief and has since used the treatment as needed to keep his body in balance.

At one point, the therapist suggested that Juha should train himself. When Juha was later working at Nokia and felt he wanted to change direction in life, he revisited that idea and started studying alongside his job. The decision turned out to be absolutely the right one.

After three years of training, he graduated in 2012 and subsequently continued with further studies to become a massage therapist in order to deepen his knowledge from a medical perspective.

Since then, Juha has worked as a full-time therapist for over 13 years, including abroad.

He works holistically and individually, by listening to the body and its signals, and has helped many with, among other things, back, neck and shoulder complaints, misalignments and mobility problems.

On his treatment bench, Juha has met people of all ages – from infants to the elderly.
